A time to rise above the tension: Your forecast for the week of May 9, 2016

Five of Wands Five of Wands CroppedHello, waxing Moon!

Friday’s New Moon in Taurus kicked off a fresh lunar cycle in the beautiful sign of Taurus.

Taurus is an earth sign, which is ruled by Venus, a planet that brings a lot of luck and fortune to the material world. The energy from last week’s New Moon will continue as the Moon waxes to full until May 21.

This gives us all some time to use this Moon’s energy purposefully. It’s a very friendly lunar cycle to work with, making this week an ideal time for new beginnings. Relationships, money, career, and love can all get a boost, as can your relationship to yourself right now.

There is also a Grand Trine taking place, and this can support any work that requires you to push past your doubts or fears. You might find that an idea you’ve been holding back on is worthwhile after all, or you might realize that you need to value your work and your goals at a higher level than in the past.

Take steps towards something that will make you feel taller and stronger, that will anchor you rather than leave you feeling like you are on shaky ground.

And remember that it’s okay to start small right now. The Five of Wands appeared for this week’s forecast; often, I find the cards that show up for these messages are nearly mirror images of what’s happening astrologically.

But this week, the Five of Wands appeared, which traditionally is seen as a challenging card. For a second, I wondered why it would show up when the stars are aligning so nicely for us right now, but it quickly made sense:

Sometimes, when we’re living by the phases of the Moon or following other astrological alignments, it can add pressure to take action before we’re ready.

The Five of Wands is a card of tension and competition, but I often see it come up in readings when people are competing with themselves more than anything.

And at the end of the day, isn’t that what we are really all doing – trying to beat out the person we were a day, or a year, ago?

The Five of Wands can appear when you have so many thoughts and ideas that they are all vying for your attention. You can feel like you’re running in circles, trying to focus on five things at once, rather than taking the time to decide what’s most important to tackle first.

And that’s what can happen sometimes when we try to cram too much around astrological timelines. I am totally guilty of this. A recovering workaholic, I used to make maddening to-do lists in time for a New Moon with totally unrealistic expectations: Start writing a new book! Start writing a script! Read five new books! Staring learning something new!

Of course, I learned my lessons along the way that this isn’t the way to go. It just leads to scattered, fragmented energy and a whole bunch of half-started projects.

Choosing one thing at a time – whatever feels most important, and most fitting for the energy that’s available to you – is the way to go, and that’s what I think the Five of Wands is here to remind us of this week.

Remember, too, that you have lots of time ahead of you to pick up new threads as you go along.

Another message I see in this card is that it’s emphasizing the capacity for love and relationships right now. The Sun and Venus are also in Taurus right now, so if you need some support in the area of love – towards others, and towards yourself – this is high time to ask for it, and put in the work that you feel you need to do.

Because even though the Five of Wands warns of tension, its ultimate message reminds us to rise above the fray. If things have felt less than ideal between you and a friend or loved one, or if your relationship with yourself needs some TLC, ask how you can be the one to take the lead in moving it towards a new direction.

Whatever choices you are making this week, here is a mantra to help you along the way:

I make progress when I am purposeful with my energy. I am clear in my intentions, trusting that I am exactly where I need to be at this time.

Have a great week, everyone!

Until next time,

Liz xo
