I can’t believe how fast this month is going.
And already, Cancer season is winding down. This Sunday, July 22, the Sun enters Leo at 5:00pm EST.
Leo is ruled by the brightest thing in our sky, the Sun.
As a fixed sign, its job is to hold the summer season in place.
Cancer gets it established, and Virgo helps to prepare us for the change into autumn.
Leo season can be a time when we get to ease up. Celebratory, joyous, and generous, it’s an energy that wants to live life to the fullest. To appreciate the time we have, and the moment we are in.
I laughed when I pulled the Hermit for this week’s forecast, given that we transitioning out of introspective Cancer over the next few days.
With so many planets retrograde right now (Mars, Saturn, Neptune, Pluto, and Chiron, a centaur planet), you may feel on overdrive when it comes to self-awareness and reflection.
Which, I think it’s important to admit, can be exhausting sometimes.
It can become a pattern to examine our every move, thought, wish, and want and wonder if there an intuition, greater lesson, or spiritual plan at work with each passing thought we have.
Self-awareness is one of the most important practices we can engage in, but it’s also helpful to know when we need a break from our own thoughts.
And it’s also helpful to know when it’s time to turn our own thoughts into action, or to continue to let them simmer a while longer.
I have heard the phrase “show up” so much this season. As soon as Mars retrograde began it felt like it was on everyone’s lips: Show up! Show up! Show up!
And as we continue to move through such intensely political times in so many parts of the world, I can see the intensity and urgency that is building out there. So many of us are wondering, “How can I show up? What can I do? How can I stop feeling helpless, or hopeless, and create change instead?”
Cancer season can cause us to withdraw sometimes, even if we are caught up in the busy summer days. It can make us feel a bit nostalgic, or melancholic at times, even when everything is okay.
It can turn us inward, like the Hermit, and push us to reflect on these questions:
“How can I show up?”
“What can I do?”
“How am I supposed to feel?”
“Am I walking the path that is right for me?”
“Am I hiding? Is it time for me to be seen?”
If you’ve been grappling with these questions this season, Leo’s energy is going to start to shift things.
With Mars retrograde until August, however, the question about showing up can go a few different ways. There are always nuances with astrology, and there is always choice in what we do with the energies we are moving through.
For some, Mars retrograde is pushing you to hold back right now in order to build your arsenal of information. To motivate yourself through knowledge. To make sure you are coming from an informed place, one that can still ride out on pure passion and emotion, but that is sound in its formation.
Too often, technology allows us to create more anger, shame, and desperation, with thoughtless comments and half-formed opinions ricocheting off keyboards around the globe. Mars retrograde can be an opportunity to think about how to be a voice of reason in a sea of chaos.
Others may be feeling this Mars retrograde in terms of their own personal boundaries. Times that you haven’t spoken up, or stood your ground, may be coming back around now to teach you a lesson. Relationships that subvert your confidence may be shifting.
While it can be a challenging time to feel confident, your confidence actually has a chance to grow exponentially right now, if you allow yourself the time to reflect on what you could be doing differently.
How do you want to show up?
If you’ve been feeling like you’ve had some hermit-like situations imposed upon you, or like you can’t break out into the world right now, let me suggest something:
The Moon is waxing right now, which means it is gaining power. And this weekend, the Sun will come home, when it settles into Leo, the sign it rules, for the next month.
So our two luminaries are going to strong this Sunday, July 22.
If you are looking for a little bit of a boost in your life – some happiness, vitality, confidence, sunshine – or a bit of the spotlight – perhaps to bring attention to a creative project, or catch some inspiration, or get noticed out there in the world – I invite you to light a candle any time after 5pm EST on Sunday.
Be like the Hermit in this image from this Cosmic Tarot. Light your own way out. Set an intention and invite the Sun and the Moon to shine for you and your wish right now.
Promise yourself to make the most out of the weeks to come.
Until next time,
