Before we get started… Did you know I have a special offer for New Year’s tarot readings? It’s on until Friday, January 20. Book an appointment here.
Happy New Year! I hope you had a wonderful weekend celebrating the arrival of 2017.
Mercury’s been retrograde since December 19, but this week brings us into the final stretch before Mercury goes direct again on Sunday, January 8. For me personally, I tend to be most sensitive to Mercury retrogrades in their final week, but you might have been feeling this one already.
Mercury retrograde can slow things down. It’s a natural, necessary pause that the universe gives us. But in our world, we don’t often have the option of stopping. Everything has to stay to status quo, or so it seems. I’ve learned over time that it’s important not to push for force things that don’t want to move during Mercury retrograde: Everything unfolds in its own time.
So try not to let the little things get to you this week. And remember that the Sun is still in hard-working Capricorn, giving many of us a boost in our ambitions, dreams, and careers. And last week’s New Moon was also in Capricorn. Throughout the week, the Moon will be waxing, which can be a great time to start new initiatives or get clear on fresh goals and intentions for the year to come.
What would you like to accomplish in 2017? Where would you like to be by the end of the year? Who would you like to be by the end of the year?
With Mercury still retrograde, it might be best to meditate on your plans and goals, but wait until after January 8 to act on them. The Moon will still be right, as it will be waxing until January 12, and the Sun is in busy Capricorn until mid-month.
Mercury retrogrades often slow things down so that we can get ourselves on the right track. I’ve mentioned in previous messages that the “re” in “retrograde” can be interpreted as a chance to re-evaluate, re-work, re-view, re-assess… you get the picture.
This week, the Eight of Swords showed up. This card can be a tricky one, as it often indicates blocks that keep us from moving forward. But my eye was immediately drawn to the woman in the card, who has her hands wrapped around the handle of a sword.
Is she pulling it out of its place, determined to no longer feel trapped? Or is she hammering it in, decidedly closing herself off from the world for good?
What story do you see unfolding in the Eight of Swords, and which scenario resonates with where you’re at right now?
This can be a powerful week to examine any barriers that are in front of you now. They may be old or new. They may be scenarios you haven’t even noticed until now.
Pay attention to any patterns, situations, or mindsets that might be holding you back from where you want to go in the year to come, and use the power of the current Mercury retrograde to re-move it.
Here’s a mantra you can work with throughout the week:
I am ready to remove whatever binds me.
Next week’s Full Moon in Cancer will give you an additional chance to release whatever you no longer want to hold onto.
Until next time,
Don’t forget: My special offer for New Year’s tarot readings is only available until Friday, January 20. Book an appointment here.
