We are in the final days of Cancer. Prepare for a big shift in energy once the weekend rolls around.
We move from water into fire. Leo is ego, passion, creativity, and outward expression. Cancer retreats into comfort. Leo busts its way through the door to announce its arrival.
It demands to be noticed.
Leo is the lion. It roars. It is ruled by the Sun, which connects to ego.
Ego gets a bad reputation. We connect it to arrogance and bravado. We connect it to bombast and posturing.
It is also where a lot of our fears come from. Ego wants to be validated, recognized, and acknowledged. When we put ourselves out there, it’s the little voice that says, “But what if no one answers?”
What if you ask for help and no one offers?
What if you start a business but no one buys anything from you?
What if you ask someone out on a date and they say no?
The ego is fragile. It is afraid of getting hurt, of being wrong, or being seen as less than it wants to be.
But don’t we all want to be seen in good light? Don’t we all want to be respected, admired, loved?
There is nothing wrong with wanting these things. I actually think for many, if not most of us, these are needs, not desires.
That’s why it’s important not to push the ego away altogether. Like every aspect of the self, it needs to be nurtured, and it needs to be given a stage in which to perform. Once it knows its boundaries, it can operate accordingly.
Ego helps us to ask for what we need. It also helps us to express, to test our limits, or to at least be aware of where we still need to push ourselves by seeing what feels scary, and what feels ready to rock.
What is your ego up to these days? What kind of stage is it performing on? Or is it performing at all?
Leo asks you to shine. It ignites the fire within and asks, “Are you really seeing yourself? Do you know your glory? Do you know your radiance?”
What do you emanate when you sit across from someone?
How do you hope to come across when you are speaking to a group, or holding a meeting?
What are you burning for right now and what will it take to ignite it?
Maybe it’s connection. Maybe it’s love. Maybe it’s creativity.
Whatever it is, Leo urges you to make sure there is some passion to it, some vibrancy.
The card that appeared this week is the Knight of Swords – this is action and urgency. In the image here (from the Starchild Tarot), we see someone about to dip their toes into the abyss. There is no turning back once they slide off that rock into the unknown.
What kind of experience are you ready to immerse yourself in? How do you want to emerge on the other side?
Leo doesn’t do anything halfway. As a fire sign, it encourages you to go all-in. Enjoy life as you can. Take a risk if you need to. Stay genuine. Be open with yourself, and with others.
In other words: Don’t hold back.
The Sun moves into Leo on Saturday, July 22 at 11:15am EST. The New Moon arrives the day after, at 4:34am EST on Sunday, July 23. The Moon will stay in Leo until early morning Tuesday, July 22, offering ample time to work with its new energy to set intentions around creativity, expression, confidence, self-worth, generosity, and recognition.
If it helps, here’s a mantra you can work with throughout the week:
I have something to say and I will be heard.
If you have a tarot deck and want to connect with the Leo New Moon, here is a spread you can try at home:
1. How do I hold myself back?
2. What is it time for me to express?
3. How can I shine?
4. How can I stay open?
Until next time,
