What happens when you ignore your intuition?
It starts to hurt.
I know, because I have struggled to listen to myself over the years.
I once set out on a career path in the non-profit industry because I wanted to help people.
But once I started working in some of the country’s major charities, I found myself in toxic workplaces that were chronically disorganized – yet they broadcasted an illusion that said otherwise.
Every day I felt conflicted, undermined, and uncertain about my role at work, let alone my future as someone who could make a difference.
When I would get home at the end of the day, I would actually catch myself whispering: “I need to quit. I need to do something differently.”
But I was stuck. I stayed. I really wanted to believe things would change, and that my goal of being of service would not be in vain.
So I ignored my intuition when it told me to get out. But that gut feeling only got louder. Not only did I hear it in my own words when I was alone, but it fell out across the pages of my journal, infiltrated my dreams, and eventually started to create severe tension in my body.
Eventually, I was spending hundreds of dollars each month on chiropractors, acupuncturists, and massage therapists – to no avail.
Finally, the day came when everything changed: I got laid off.
One of the first thoughts I had was, “Why didn’t I leave sooner?”
It felt so good to walk away – and so right. I decided never to go back, and never to ignore myself like that again.
I have made a lot of changes since. And I have learned how valuable it is to be able to trust yourself inside and out.
Recognizing that intuitive voice, hearing a call to make a change, and knowing how your body speaks to you are all key to reclaiming the parts of yourself that get lost in the wrong jobs, relationships, and circumstances.
Because learning how to listen to yourself is how change begins.
Tarot was a lifeline for me throughout those years. It taught me a lot about how to start listening to that inner voice, and gave me so much confidence to embrace transition when it showed up.
Because once you commit to it, tarot changes you in so many wonderful, meaningful ways. It also teaches you how to ride through life’s cycles, and understand the greater lesson and purpose behind your experiences.
