Scorpio season is just around the corner. We are already feeling it with Jupiter having moved into Scorpio’s underworld last Tuesday, October 10.
This week, on Tuesday, October 17, Mercury will move into Scorpio as well. Mercury rules our thoughts, our words. In astrology, it is the voice of our natal charts.
Jupiter is already working to expand the magic and power of Scorpio. In turn, this transit can have an effect on each of us, especially those who are ready to (re)claim their personal power, their intuitive wilderness.
With Mercury entering Scorpio soon, our thoughts, ideas, and conversations can go deep. You may find that your intuition is sharper than usual. You might also find fearlessness in your voice these days; Scorpio prefers to be direct, honest. While sometimes this sign is treated with some suspicion because of its mysterious nature, I find that Scorpio energy can be immensely helpful in learning how to assert ourselves.
If Scorpio resides in some of the deepest, darkest places, then surely in chatty Mercury, it would not shy away from talking about the tough stuff. So be open to the possibility of bringing relationships – whether they are personal or professional – to a more honest place in the next few weeks. Be open, as well, to new levels of emotional availability.
Remember, too, that Scorpio connects to death and rebirth, and so these may also be themes that run through our conversations and decisions at this time. Change is in the air with Mercury in Scorpio. We can begin to see decisions that have to be made when it comes to bringing chapters in our lives to a close.
As we see with the Wheel of Fortune card that appeared this week, it is time for life to turn a corner. Within a week, the Sun will move into Scorpio, moving us into a time when we can start to see what it’s time to leave behind as the year slowly winds down.
We are mid-season now, coming up to the halfway point between the Fall Equinox and the Winter Solstice in the northern hemisphere. As we look with gratitude at what the year has provided for us, we also start to look at what we no longer want to carry forward, or what may no longer be able to stay on this journey.
This New Moon in Libra arrives on Thursday, October 19. This New Moon arrives late in the Libra season and doesn’t stay in Libra for long; just over six hours later, it will move into the sign of Scorpio.
The change that is in the air will certainly come up with this New Moon as well. Each new lunar cycle opens us up to new possibilities. Libra is balance, justice, partnership. What’s on your scales right now? What is bringing you to a tipping point? What is outweighing other priorities in your life, if anything?
Use the days ahead to think about what you may want to celebrate, to uplift, or balance out. If you need to bring something to death under Scorpio’s rule, there will plenty of time to do that.
Use this New Moon to set an intention for kindness and compassion, but try to turn it on yourself first.
If there is something you want to do better, or feel better about, make a promise to yourself on this New Moon in Libra to invite that change into your life. Sometimes, we don’t always know how to make something happen, or where to start.
If you’re not sure what steps to take, that’s okay. Try to at least take a moment to envision the change you’d like to see. Say to yourself, “I don’t know how it will happen, but I will figure it out.” That commitment alone can be enough to start with.
Shift your scales. Tip them in your favour.
Remember that Libra is ruled by Venus, the patron of love and the arts. If you need more space for your friendships, your loves, your art, your source of inspiration, now is the time to invite it in.
Remember, too, that Scorpio energy reminds us that to invite something into your life, you often have to make space for it to enter. So don’t be afraid of what a tipping of the scales might look like for you.
Libra asks you to trust in your own definition of balance. It may not be perfect (is it ever, anyway?), but it doesn’t have to be.
It just has to be right for you.
If it helps, here’s a mantra for you to work with throughout the week:
When I listen to myself, everything else falls into place.
And here is a tarot spread to help you connect with the Libra New Moon:
1. What do I now need to bring into balance?
2. What truth is it time for me to reveal?
3. How can I be more honest with myself?
4. How can I be of service to others without sacrificing myself?
Until next time,
