The Full Moon in Gemini is coming up on Tuesday, December 13.
This Moon is also known as Long Nights Moon, or the Goose Moon. It’s the last Full Moon of 2016, and feels a bit like an early nod to the upcoming Winter Solstice, for those of us in the northern hemisphere. The days here are growing shorter, and this week’s Moon will be the brightest light in night skies.
The term Goose Moon is symbolic of entering into a time when we begin to rely on stored energy, as a goose might rely on its fat and feathers. What might that stored energy look like for you? Perhaps you are looking forward to the colder days, when things slow down a bit we allow ourselves to stay in a little more often.
For me, I see stored energy as special projects that I’ve had on the backburner for some time. Winter has a way of pushing us inward; I often get a lot of writing done in December and January. My hope for the coming season is to write a new book.
Stored energy can be anything that you’re looking forward to, anything that might help you subsist in the dark: A growing pile of unread books by the bed, your own unfinished manuscript, a plan with a good friend to meet for coffee at your kitchen table once a week.
I’m drawn to making suggestions that connect us to words, ideas, and communication because this week’s Full Moon is in Gemini, the sign of the twins. An air sign, Gemini connects through shared knowledge.
Gemini wants to talk, listen, learn, absorb, and intellectually evolve.
Not surprisingly, the Hierophant was the card I pulled for additional insight around this week’s message. The Hierophant often connects to education, wisdom, and knowledge – all themes that Gemini would find itself at home in.
The Hierophant also has strong connections to spirituality, divinity, and the esoteric, and so I would also encourage you to use this week’s Moon to focus on some intentions around how information and learning can help you connect to a stronger sense of self.
What wisdom might help you feel more connected to your higher power? Or, perhaps it’s time for you to step into the role of the Hierophant and disseminate some wisdom of your own. What paths have you walked that you can now share with others?
You might also want to think back to early June, when we had the New Moon in Gemini. A question you were asking then might now be coming clear, or an initiative you undertook at that time can have an important development this week.
You might also want to think about what you need to release energetically at this time, so that you can cultivate your own stored energy. If the winter months are particularly tough on you, then you might want to consider where your energy is going – are you using it efficiently, or is it holding onto things that may have to be left out in the cold?
If it helps, here is a mantra that you can use throughout the week:
I find warmth and resilience when I face my true self.
And if you have a tarot deck of your own, here is a spread you might like to work with to connect with Tuesday’s Full Moon:
1. What lesson emerged for me in the past six months?
2. What knowledge am I ready to share with the world?
3. What can I learn from in the coming season?
4. What must I leave out in the cold?
And if you are looking for a gift for a fellow tarot reader, or for someone who wants to learn the cards, there’s still time to order my new tarot book – Going Beyond the Little White Book – to receive it by December 24. It’s perfect for tarot enthusiasts of all levels, from beginner to pro. I also offer gift certificates for private tarot readings, classes, and more. Visit my shop for details.
Happy Full Moon.
Until next time,
