My thoughts on manifestation (and what I do to make things happen)

Tarot reading brings a lot of ambitious clients to the table.

A common reason people turn to tarot readers is to gain insight into their goals. People’s dreams hinge on questions like:

“How can I help my business succeed this year?”
“How can I build my creative practice?”
“How can I become financially independent?”

And sometimes, these conversations can lead into questions about manifestation. Tarot clients wonder exactly what they should be doing holistically to achieve their dreams:

Should they be performing a certain ritual?
Or using affirmations?
Or visualizing their ideal outcome?
Changing their vibration?

There’s a lot of talk out there about manifestation. And like anything else in the New Age space, there are a lot of opinions, ideas, and contradictions to be found on the subject.

The word manifest also has several definitions. In spiritual contexts, it is often used as a verb, meaning to make something manifest –...

What I focus on when things feel bleak

I haven’t been writing very much about current events or politics in the last while.

Occasionally I have shared thoughts about world issues in my newsletter, or on my social media. But on a whole, my weekly messages here are intended to be about tarot in some capacity.

And sometimes, I wonder if this gives the impression that I’m not noticing what’s going on, or what’s happening out there.

When I find my thoughts wandering too far into despair, I think of all the amazing art that...

And we tell ourselves that if we start living our purpose, or find more fulfillment through our work, business or relationships, then everything will just fall into place.

No more struggle. No more pain. Just all easy, all the time.

And if we’re not experiencing ease, success, or alignment? Then something must be wrong.

The universe is conspiring against you NOT ‼

Life is not without effort. The universe is not bound by binary thinking that there is only one way, or one path, and if something isn’t coming easily then it’s not meant for you.

Most things are rarely easy...

Why I No Longer Set Up Ancestor Altars at Halloween

Halloween, Scorpio season, Samhain, All Soul’s Day…

No matter what you name this time of year, ancestors become a popular theme about now.

It is believed the veil is at its thinnest these days, and that the spirits around us are close. People build altars to honour the dead. We burn candles for our ancestors, maybe leaving out their photographs or favourite libations in remembrance.

Maybe you already have an ancestral practice for this time of year. Maybe you’ve only heard bits and pieces of these ideas, your curiosity piqued by beautiful altar photos on Instagram or blog posts that offer some quick tips about ancestral work.

I used to follow all of that advice. Each October, when the Sun moved into Scorpio, I would start to set up an ancestor altar. I would adorn it with candles and mementoes, photographs and seasonal offerings.

And then, as we got into mid-November and Halloween had come and gone, I had no idea what to do with that altar.

So I would disassemble...
