Happy New Year!
I hope you are doing well, all things considered.
Thank you so much for joining me here. Iâm excited to start the New Year off with you!
What intentions, hopes, dreams, and changes are you bringing with you into 2021?
Personally, Iâm bringing in a few new and old plans: Iâm going to take clarinet lessons, for one.
Two, Iâm bringing back my annual resolution to read all the un-read books I have at home before buying new ones. (Itâs the third year in a row Iâm setting this resolution â letâs see if I can keep it this time around.)
There are also a few spiritual trends and beliefs that I would be happy to see disappear in 2021:
1. The belief that tarot readers, energy healers and other intuitive workers shouldnât charge for their âgifts.â This idea only serves people who donât believe in paying someone for their labour.
Energetic and intuitive work are skills like any other, and many people who run service-based businesses have invested a lot of time and money into...
A couple of blogs ago, I shared why Iâm no longer talking about astrology here as much I used to.
(You can read it here if you missed it.)
I didnât come to that decision quickly, or easily.
When you put years into something, it can feel disorienting to realize you donât feel the same way about it as you used to. Given that astrology is part of my spiritual practice, it was a decision that went beyond just a newsletter.
For a while, I questioned myself:
Do I not believe in astrology anymore?
Do I not think itâs important?
Do I not want other people to discover it and see it the way I do?
I do believe in astrology, and I do think itâs important. But I want to have a different relationship with it now.
And to do that, I need to take a bit of a step back from working with it so publicly.
This isnât an easy thing to do these days, with our lives so out in the open online.
This is a reflection of what happens when spiritual practices evolve. Our relationships to our spirituality, ...
This year, many tarot readers have transitioned online in response to pandemic regulations and health precautions.
Which has left many people wondering, "Do tarot readings still âworkâ over the phone or online?âÂ
The short answer is: OF COURSE!Â
I have been doing readings on Zoom since 2015 and let me tell you: Where or how your reading is delivered has no bearing on its accuracy or effectiveness.
Not only do I know this from my job as a reader, but also as a client. Most of the readers and intuitives I have worked with have been by distance.
When booking a reading, remember:
âŚď¸A readerâs skill is what matters - and that has nothing to do with the vehicle you are using to commutate with them;
âŚď¸ Distance readings make it possible to work with people all over the world, so you are not limited by geography when it comes to choice;
âŚď¸ You donât have to touch or physically choose your tarot cards for them to âworkâ for you. Readers have been working by phone, email, and Skype LONG before the pande...
If youâve been following me for a while now, you might have noticed I havenât been writing about astrology as much I used to.
I started this newsletter over five years ago as a place to talk about tarot cards and lunar cycles. It didnât begin as a weekly mailing, but eventually it grew to that.
Along the way, I began to expand to write about more than the moon. Eventually, my newsletter grew to share weekly astrological updates.
But throughout that time, I started to lose one of my original intentions: tarot.
Throughout this last year, Iâve felt limited by astrology. Not by the practice itself, but by the pressure to keep up the astrological conversation here week after week.
Astrology is fascinating, but itâs always changing: Our universe is in constant motion. Writing about astrology requires timeliness, as its relevance can come and go in a matter of days, weeks, or months.
As a writer, this is frustrating. I was starting to feel like some of my work was disposable, quickly re...
It is my belief that tarot is for everyone, and that it can be beneficial in many situations when used appropriately.
Like any tool, it will only work she applied with the proper skill and intention.
If you are getting a tarot reading, your emotional and intellectual perspective will also play a role in how that reading goes. Itâs important to be in an open state of mind, ready to receive information.
I have had clients in the past who were clearly not ready for tarot and sometimes, I have had to cut sessions short because querents were so nervous or scared.
As a tarot reader, I wonât always know where you are at emotionally when you book an appointment. It is up to you to know whether you are ready and willing to give tarot a try.
Here are 3 signs you might not be ready for a reading:
1. You have immense guilt about it, to the point where you canât enjoy your reading. I once had a client break down in tears because they felt like they were going against their religion by seeing me. (Side...
If youâve spent any time at all following new age practitioners, youâve likely heard the phrase, âGo with what resonates with you.â
This saying permeates new age spiritual culture of all kinds: It shows up in tarot workshops and healing sessions. You see it in books and hear it on YouTube channels.
Itâs meant to be taken as guidance or advice to help a student or client figure out what their next step is. Sometimes, itâs given during times of confusion, as though to say, âJust go with what you feel.â
Confusion itself doesnât get us very far, does it? When youâre not sure whether youâre coming or going, and youâre unclear as to whether youâre supposed to do this or that, things can go one of two ways:
You stay stuck and keep repeating the same old patterns, knowing you need to take different actions but youâre not sure what they are, orâŚ
You act on emotion, impulse, or intuition and hope for the bestâŚeven if the action youâre taking is a stab in the dark and youâre unsure whethe...
âHow can I do better?â
This question is reverberating around the world right now.
Anti-racist actions and education have become bigger priorities in spiritual communities recently, including the tarot world.
As a result, I have seen a number of Black women make pleas through their social media accounts for people to stop contacting them by private messages to ask, âHow can I help? What can I do? How can I be a better ally?â
For those who are not content creators or who are not public-facing in their work, it might come as a shock just how often boundaries get crossed online.
I donât know what itâs like to get asked about anti-racism education, or how to support Black Lives Matter.
But I do know itâs a huge problem for tarot readers and astrologers to get contacted by people requesting free readings, feedback on their natal charts or tarot spreads, or advice on whether an ex is returning.
So I can only imagine what others deal with on a regular basis â and especially now, as s...
I have been feeling frustrated lately.
And impatient. And tired â not physically, but intellectually and emotionally.
Especially by what I see in so-called spiritual communities, from so-called spiritual people who push conspiracy theories and promote paranoia, suspicion, and careless information.
I know that conspiracy theories exist in all types of circles.
And spiritual work is not my only work. But it is a place I spend much time in, and a place I choose to lead from, so itâs what Iâm going to address today.
I am expanding on some thoughts I shared in a previous post that bears repeating, and bears witness with the astrology of the moment.
I always encourage discernment, logic, and groundedness in all that we do. My life's work is based in spiritual practices, art, and magic, but that doesn't mean I don't have space in my life for critical thinking, science, and rational thought.
If you study tarot, astrology, or other spiritual practices deeply enough, you will learn that they...
Today, I want you to think about something you really want to accomplish.
Maybe you want to launch a new business in the next six months.
Maybe you want to run a marathon next year.
Maybe you want to learn a new language.
Maybe you want to write an album, or a book, or build an artistic career.
Whatever it is, I want you to hold onto it for a moment.
What does fear have to do with your goal? Maybe it influences your actions a little, or a lot. Maybe fear is what is keeping you from moving forward right now.
Maybe youâve found yourself thinking, âIf I knew there a good chance this plan would work out, I would do it for sure.â
Maybe youâre waiting for that sign, confirmation, or guarantee.
I think Iâm a pretty good person to talk to about fear, though probably not for the same reasons people expect.
In my work as a tarot reader, I often answer questions about goals: People look to tarot for certainty, outcomes, and predictions.
âWill this work out?â
âAm I on the right path...
Back in March, when things first started to close up in response to the pandemic, my friends and I were â in hindsight â naĂŻve about how long this was really going to last.
I was on my way to the gym one morning when a friend I chat with there was on his way out. âItâs closed,â he said. The sign on the door had just gone up. We walked a couple blocks together and when our directions split off we said, âSee you in fourteen days, I guess!â
My friends who have local shops all said the same. They hung signs on their doors that said, âWeâll be back again soon!â
Still, two weeks without bars, restaurants, gyms, and stores seemed long â especially when weâve gotten so used to our 24/7, go, go, go lifestyles.
Ah, how quaint it all seems now when I look on it. How cute! We thought we would be back to ânormalâ in a matter of days.
A few weeks into this new normal, I started to realize that this was going to mean my tarot readings would change â especially in regards to the common question...
